Sun, Dec 04, 22

It’s been an interesting and challenging year so far, but the wine world still pushes forward as strong as ever. Here are our Top 12 Wines of 2020 so far. After all March has been the longest year ever. We hope during these trying times you continue to enjoy the little things in life and some great wine.

#1 – STONE BAY SAUVIGNON BLANC, NEW ZEALAND

If you love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and a super value too, look no further than Stone Bay! Born in the same region as those “more famous” and more expensive labels. It is the textbook definition of Marlborough. Sublime flavors of gooseberry, citrus, dried herbs, and hints of passion fruit.

#2 – PAMPLUNE ROSE, FRANCE

Rosé wine flavored with natural grapefruit aromas which complement the wine. The association of the pomelo vivacity and the wine crispness gives a feeling of freshness and refinement. An explosion of fruits with an elegant touch of bitter sweetness. Serve as an aperitif, or with spicy and exotic flavored dishes, or as base for cocktails!

#3 – NATALE VERGA PROSECCO, ITALY

Lovely flavors of pear, peach and a hint of honey. The ultimate Mimosa base but we like it with our favorite, fried clams with a bottle of Tabasco nearby.

#4 – SUVALI PINOT NOIR, CALIFORNIA

Sourcing the Pinot from various cool climates throughout California creates a blend that highlights bright fruit flavors and exotic spices. Pour a hearty glass to release scents of ripe cherries, take a sip and savor flavors of pomegranate and black cherry with a hint of spice. Pair it with everything from grilled clams to pepper chicken stir-fry.

#5 – GIAPOZA CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALIFORNIA

This wonderful wine shows alluring aromas of blackberry and espresso. In the mouth the wine shows layers of creamy cassis, boysenberry, and oak mingling with the vanilla bean finish. Serve it with steak with Gorgonzola sauce or a grilled pork tenderloin with rice pilaf.

#6 – NATALE VERGA PINOT GRIGIO, ITALY

In an ocean of inexpensive Pinot Grigio, Natale Verga stands out from the crowd as a true VALUE! Green apple, pears and orange blossoms makes this light and dry wine versatile enough to be served by itself or ideal with pan-fried halibut steak to lemon chicken picatta.

#7 – LONG PATH CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALIFORNIA

Pleasant aromas of bright red cherry and berries, flavors of plum, raspberry and cherry are complemented with allspice, cinnamon and vanilla. It’s medium-full bodied with a soft style. Try pairing with steak, but seasoned pork chops and pork tenderloin are also tasty options. Also, pair with hard, aged cheeses before dinner, or after dinner consider a tiny bit of milk chocolate to turn the Cabernet tannins into silk.

#8 – GEARBOX CHARDONNAY, CALIFORNIA

Gearbox wines originate from select vineyards located in the most prestigious wine growing regions in California. A quintessential California Chardonnay full of toasted oak and fruity flavors of white peach and nectarine and an almond finish. The lively acidity makes it great as an aperitif or paired with Bay Scallop Chowder or a Curry Chicken Salad.

#9 – VENTO DI MARE PINOT GRIGIO ORGANIC, ITALY

Vento di Mare Pinot Grigio is produced from organic grapes grown in the picturesque vineyards located on the sunny island of Sicily. This refreshing wine reveals delicious notes of pears and citrus fruit and delivers a fragrant, fruity finish. Pour a glass and enjoy with pasta primavera or clams in a light cream sauce.

#10 – OCTOPODA CABERNET FRANC, CALIFORNIA

This may be the most popular red wine we have sold in many years and we are thrilled it is back! This is a velvety smooth mouthful of wine, rich aromas and flavors of blueberry and violets are complemented by black olive and vanilla on the long finish. It will charm the life out of you when serve with grilled sausages with polenta & tapenade.

#11 – THE INTROVERT CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALIFORNIA

From the winery behind customer favorites: Navigator, this barrel reserve cabernet sauvignon is very balanced and refined with blackberry, blackcurrant and floral character. Medium-to full-bodied, subtle and complex. Very approachable, this wine is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Great with marinated flank steak or a chunk of aged cheddar.

#12 – SANTA FRANCESCA PINOT GRIGIO, ITALY

Reflects the origin of its prime growing area, Alto Adige, where the world’s best Pinot Grigio’s are created. This grower sells some of his grapes to Santa Margherita but keeps the best for himself and this is the wine made from those grapes. Intense aromas with delicious notes of golden apple and pear. Excellent as an aperitif or with seafood salads, fish or white meats.
