Stock Up Now, Drink Later (or Now)

Sun, Dec 04, 22

With temperatures predicted to hit 100 degrees on Saturday, this isn’t exactly Amarone season. These big powerful reds from Italy’s Veneto region are perfect winter wine warmers and ideal pairs with roasts, short ribs, stews and more. So why am I posting about this offer in the middle of summer? Well, it’s because we have one in stock right now that will be very likely sold out by the time the first frost hits.

The 2015 Campagnola Amarone is everything that I look for in an Amarone. It has captivating aromas of red and blackberries, chocolate and flowers, while the palate offers up a perfect combination of both rich, ripe fruit and dried fruit flavors. It is a powerful wine, but there is a creaminess to it that makes it very inviting. There is also great freshness to it and a salivating mineral quality that makes pouring glass number two (and three) all too easy. It seems somewhat improbable that one wine can have all of these characteristics, but the 2015 Campagnola does.

Amarone’s general price range is $50-$75 with many going much higher. By comparison, the Campagnola is a steal. While supplies last the 2015 Campagnola Amarone is $34.99, $31.49 with the purchase of six bottles or more.

James Suckling loved this wine, rating it 95 points and writing…

“A beautifully crafted and focused red with dark -berry and walnut character. Full-bodied and very polished with a deep, silky tannin structure and a long, long finish.
Drink or hold.”

There is a certain otherworldly character to Amarones and their complexity usually grows with time. I love Amarone in its first ten years of life, but the best can age longer, developing secondary flavors of leather, fig and tobacco. I expect the Campagnola will age in this fashion. Grab some now to enjoy with grilled rib eye steaks and racks of ribs, and grab some now to put away for future enjoyment.

Cheers,
