The Wines of Easter

Sun, Dec 04, 22

The Easter holiday may not have the pageantry of Thanksgiving or Christmas, but what it lacks in grandeur it makes up for in the department that we’re most concerned with: wine! And whether it’s ham, turkey, rib roast, or lamb on the Easter table this year, there are countless vinous choices to pair with your meal and enjoy throughout the day. We have selected a few of our favorites, so let’s take a deep dive into the Wines of Easter.

Gancia Prosecco
This has been a top-selling Prosecco for years now, and it’s no wonder why. It has everything one would want in a Prosecco! Fresh and floral with honeydew melon, green apple, and citrus flavors, this is light on its feet and the perfect accompaniment to the kitchen prep work.

Sensi 18K Moscato Rosé
Bright pink color with purple shades. It’s fruity and fresh to the nose, the aromatic quality elegantly blending with hints of raspberry, cherry, and red berries. It has an intense and fragrant taste with sweetness and acidity in perfect balance. Its finish recalls notes of raspberry and black cherry.

Haton Brut Classic Champagne
We love Champagne. We’re quick to exalt its virtues as both a wonderful food wine and the perfect cocktail wine. This makes Haton Brut Classic the perfect addition to any Easter brunch or dinner. When you consider quality and price, Haton Brut Classic is our favorite Champagne in the store. From a prominent boutique producer, this bottle of bubbly is vibrant with just enough richness to keep things balanced – the perfect champagne to kick off the Easter holiday this year.

Rosés are a great Easter wine option as well. Classic Provence style Rosés pale in color with floral aromatics, that show strawberry and cherry fruit, mineral undertones, and mouthwatering acidity, are wonderful choices for brunch. If ham is on the menu they are natural pairs for that dish as well. Among our favorites are Rosés from Mirabeau, 508 Provence, and Moment de Plaisir.

Mirabeau Rosé Classic
This Rosé is a great value. The nose is rich and intense and offers a blend of white peach & white pear fruit w/ flowers & subtle citrus notes. The mouth is well-balanced, a perfect mix of roundness and freshness with an elegant fruity finish.

508 Provence Rosé
The idea came to create a perfect rosé wine, specially made for beach drinkers. Although, it is not beach weather yet, try this refreshing and easy drinking wine that will pair easily with any dishes.

Moment de Plaisir Rosé
This Rosé is a great value. The nose is rich and intense and offers a blend of white peach & white pear fruit with flowers & subtle citrus notes. The mouth is well-balanced, a perfect mix of roundness and freshness with an elegant fruity finish.

Along with any of the aforementioned Rosés, there are a number of other choices, both white and red, that would work perfectly with an afternoon/evening ham dinner. Here are a few worth trying.

90+ Cellars Riesling Lot 66
This is a refreshingly juicy, off-dry Riesling grown on steep slopes throughout the Mosel Saar Ruwer valleys. Fragrant aromas of stone fruit and straw with a touch of sweetness and crisp, lively acidity. A perfect companion for Easter brunch and dinner.

Carl Sittmann Riesling
Because ham has a sweet and salty profile, wines with a bit of sweetness work well. Carl Sittmann is one of our top Rieslings, and is a great value and would do just fine with a ham dinner. The lemon, peach, and apple flavors complement a honey glaze and the acidity of the wine works to balance the saltiness of the dish.

90+ Cellars Bourgogne Pinot Noir Lot 160
This is a juicy Burgundy that’s filled with bright cherry and strawberry fruit and a hint of baking spice. Smooth across the palate, this is sure to appeal to fans of Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley.

Fly By Pinot Noir
Sun-dried tart cherry, cinnamon, rose petals and red rock candy aromas are backed by notes of graphite and black tea. The delicate aromas follow through to the flavors with the addition of dried cranberry and orange peel with a soft finish.

If you’re more of a lamb person, this is where you can break out the full-bodied reds. The meaty, gamey flavor of the lamb paired with a big California Cab.

Shell & Shale Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark berry and spiced cherry waft from this wine. On the palate, it offers dark cherry and black currant flavors. An energetic finish is firmed by supple, slow-building tannins. Blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries, vanilla, and a touch of oak. This is what we want in our Napa Cabs, and Fisch has it and then some. Lush and balanced, the ripe tannins of this wine would melt right into the juicy lamb.

So I think that covers it. Brunch through dinner, morning through evening, these wine options will make whatever you’re serving on Easter Sunday that much better.

Happy Easter!
